‘Reaction’ is the latest single from pop soul-songwriter Gianna Alessi. The song was created early 2020, after a day driving up the California coast. Now, in early 2021, the song takes on new meaning as the year continues to test us at every bend.
The track is dripping with luxury jazz and RnB-infused melodies, complimenting Gianna’s silky smooth vocals as a result. There are stunning harmonies dispersed throughout but it’s the chorus which provides the real ear-worm. We have been singing ‘no satisfaction, gonna get what you need’ in our sleep! Really, it’s that catchy.
Fellow New York musicians Josh Bailey (drums), Christian Nourijanian (keys), and Pat Cochrane (bass) play on the track which highlights lush guitars, ambient Moog, and expansive vocals. All vocals were recorded at Moon Recording in Brooklyn and the track was produced by Gavi Grodsky. By the sounds of it, Gianna is surrounded by fantastic musicians. Reaction was even mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Javon Gant-Graham!
Hailing from a long lineage of classical musicians, the journey began when the singer-songwriter’s grandmother — a former lyric soprano at the Metropolitan Opera — gave nine-year-old Gianna her first-ever voice lesson. While studying theatre at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee School of Music, Gianna took a songwriting course on a whim and became infatuated with the craft.
Immersing herself in NYC’s music scene, she gained experience & exposure as a session vocalist, bandleader, and solo artist. In the summer of 2019, Gianna enjoyed a residency at Club Groove, opening up for soul group Kennedy Administration. Today, the vocalist spends her time writing, recording, and gigging in the city she calls home. We can’t wait to hear more melodious tunes from Gianna!
